pop crop drop top

I read 63 pages of Chuck Klosterman’s Sex, Drugs, & Cocoa Puffs and an epiphany ensued. I hate pop commentary. I hate social commentary. I hate commentary. On this note, I am going to revamp this entire site. I no longer expect anyone to care what I have to say about music or movies or whatever other crap I’m “reviewing”.  I don’t care what you have to say about it and I care even less about my own opinion.

On that note, I don’t  want to blog either. So I’m doing a webpage re-ducks. I am looking to keep writing of the fictional variety afloat, as well as providing a place to download free music. Forget opinions, I want new creative material.

Give me a minute- only retrospect reveals timelessness.

Check me out

I got a whole page of boywiththeboot reviews in the CSU paper this week – moniker and all. Here’s the online addition:

Noise Inspector

Also get the new BEACH STAV album. Look for them to be performing shows by summertime.

Live action, betch.

I just know it…

I know there’s something a guy like me with a blog like this can easily obtain to know how many readers he has. But screw it, I’m not even gonna bother finding out. I heard that Terrance Howard never watches a single movie he’s in. I, for one, think that sounds like a bunch of shit. Why would you bother making something you wouldn’t enjoy? That’s the ultimate test for me when I record new music. If I don’t like listening to it why would you?

The wife and I really wanted attend the showing of “Out Of Place” at the CIFF last night, but it was already sold out. Hopefully I can catch it another time. I requested a media pass too late, but the folks were kind enough to give me a handful of vouchers, which makes witnessing Lake Erie surfers on film a promising prospect in my future.

Beach Stav already has a new album being conceptualized. Rumor has it this is going to be a collection of 8 classic motown/R&B/standards type of shit, so hopefully that’ll be done by…May? In the meantime, be sure to download their latest e.p. Andrew Junk.

ALSO, check out these album reviews:

Liars – Sisterworld

Titus Andronicus – The Monitor

The Knife – Tomorrow, In A Year

White Stripes – Under Great White Northern Lights

Usher – Raymond vs. Raymond

SPRING BREAK!!!!

SPRING BREAK IS AN OCCASION FOR ALL CAPS!!!!!!! Whoa, bro, but seriously I am off of work and school all week and I have only a mediocre list of things to get done. So I’ve got a slew of new music and movie reviews.

First off the new Beach Stav e.p. Andrew Junk is available for free download here:

YO!!!!!

It’s awesome and we here at boywiththeboot.com hope you thoroughly enjoy it enough to spread the word.

Whenever I hear a new album I begin a critique in my head. This critique usually is in the form of a letter to said musician. I would like to take this opportunity to announce that from this point on, all of my album reviews will be in “Dear so and so…” format. If you don’t like it, then you’ve obviously never received a real letter snail mail style. That shit is so exciting I just get this little cute butterfly feeling in my tummy, it’s adorable…

Here are the new reviews:

Movies

Alice in Wonderland

Dead Snow

Music

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Beat The Devil’s Tattoo

Gil Scott-Heron – I’m New Here

Gorillaz – Plastic Beach

Joanna Newsom – Have One On Me

Lightspeed Champion - Life Is Sweet! Nice To Meet You

Hope y’all enjoy everything here. Download the music, read the reviews, and go on loving your lives, please.

Pieces out!

Smells like blogging.

When the warmth hits Cleveland, I can smell things again. The ground dethaws and you can smell dirt and grass. But most of all you can smell culture. Foods and industry and music all have smells again – those and piss. Piss takes on a nice new summer-y smell.

So spring springs eternal hope and prospects in “Believeland”. Then the summer wears on and we get sun bleached in the brain and fall apart. Then fall, then winter, and nothing new is accomplished. Cycle cycle cycle please, fuckers.

I’m starting to think that the only way to save Cleveland is with a shrink ray that puts everything in proximity to everything else. Stop expanding and start compounding. The question is…does anyone have a shrink ray?? I lost mine. I’m just hoping for more creativity and ambition this summer. Don’t sell yourselves short – practice that craft. In the meantime, I want to skateboard, ride bikes, swim, and play basketball, so call me.

I’m attempting to get a media pass to the Cleveland Film Festival. If you’re out there, people in charge, I hope you hear me. I’m legit!!!

Peace and sun

Judging, judging, and…done.

Well it’s a fresh Monday in lala land, where I reside. My computer used to be really fast and now it’s just kind of fast, dang, mom! There’s a lot of exciting shit going on.

The Olympics ended with another totally weird Canadian entertainment giant balloon thing happening.

Wrong clip.

March Madness is about to get going. It’s almost warm outside. Pere Ubu is playing this weekend at the Beachland. The Cleveland International Film Festival is coming up soon, which is gonna be awesome. My drug rug keeps getting more comfortable…

Okay so I wrote a couple of reviews for this week’s edition of CSU’s cauldron. I really think I might have wrote them for dumb college kids who don’t know about good music. They’re too wordy for my taste, so I’m not going to post them on here, I will rewrite them, blog appropriately, and not try to pander to mediums anymore so my shit is applicable across the board, son!

In short I kind of like the new Brian Jonestown Massacre disc Who Killed Sgt. Pepper? and I superbly enjoy the new Joanna Newsom album Have One on Me. Definitely pick up the latter and kind of pick up the former.

Here’s a review of Zombieland, and speaking of BM…

Went to a new bar last night downtown called Caddyshack. This is not owned by Bill Murray, that’s a party rumor, but they have a billion tvs that are Wii-erated and they have private virtual golf rooms that are enough fun to get you black listed. OH and cookies that are better than Mcd’s. So that’s…something.

Beach Stav is currently working on a new album entitled Andrew Junk that should be finished relatively soon and will be available for free digital download. I’m gonna host a sneak peak track later this week, or day, and then hopefully the album will be done soon for your pleasure.

Check back for mu-sack.

Histeria

A couple of new album reviews for the masses:

Spoon – Transference

Sade - Soldier of Love

Not exactly a cohesive mix, but both pertinent in their own respects. I will be reviewing the new Brian Jonestown Massacre and Joanna Newsom pieces in the following week. In case anyone is interested or concerned, I have brought back my shitty moustache in better form than last summer.

I pass over train tracks by my house multiple times a day and have been doing so for the last couple of years. I think I’ve only been stopped by a train once. I come and go at all hours, do you think this is coincidence? Or are these tracks just not getting their use…are trains on the outs? I don’t know, I was wondering about it yesterday. If we could tear them out, that’d be cool because they’re fucking with my alignment. Thank you, city planners.

Good grief.

What’s up with all those D.E.A. agents??

Yo y’all. I just finished the review after seeing Dr. Dog with The Growlers last week. Scope it here:

Show time

I am doing some album reviews for CSU’s paper. Let’s see…the new Spoon and Sade albums, so look for those by the end of this week.

Don’t forget to check out the new poetry that has been posted as of recent by Liz Kramer and your’s truly, the e.p.’s by Drug Bunny and Beach Stav, and also check those links to the left for some good fiction reading by Christian Woodruff.

I have recently really really really wanted to start a book. I wrote a few pages, but I don’t think I have an entire work of adult fiction in me. I am contemplating becoming the next J.K. Rowling. I’m going to invent a new middle earth for middle school.

Love love love love everyone.

How do you do, sir.

“How do you do, sir?”
“How?! Why must you know how? Why must everything be explained?”
“Sir, I am asking in terms of a simpleton formality.”
“Well, young man, formality is for featherheads!”

If anyone can tell me what a featherhead is, I’ll give them something.
Here are some new poems, two from myself and one from Liz Kramer.

The Rebellious Mexican Rock Band Singer – Liz Kramer

Clandestine Tenants of Really (a manifesto) – Jon Conley

Awful Sound – Jon Conley

Digital music means anyone can have a label…

Two brand new debut releases! Both available for free digital download. How exciting…

Drug Bunny – Queers, Tears, and Virgin Ears e.p.

Beach Stav – Trip e.p.

also…a limited time download of a bonus track on Jon Conley & The Sunshine Cats upcoming release Blind Owl Wilson:

Many Years (bonus track)

It’s like a regular old record label over here.

Boy with the Boot Records : “…because shameless self-promotion and music should be free…”
